Under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has sanctioned a total of 51 contracts valued at N6.27 trillion for the procurement, construction, and development of various infrastructural projects nationwide over the span of eight months.

These contracts, awarded between October 16, 2023, and May 14, 2024, encompass a diverse range of infrastructural endeavors crucial for national development, including road construction, bridge building, railway systems, and airport infrastructure enhancement.

Among the allocated contracts are 43 road projects and three contracts for airport development, among others.

The FEC, constituting the highest executive body in the Federal Government system, consists of senior government officials, including ministers and other high-ranking cabinet members. Its constitutional role involves formulating policies, executing government projects, and assisting the President in fulfilling executive functions, with the President serving as the ultimate decision-maker.

In his inaugural speech on May 29 of the previous year, President Tinubu pledged a significant focus on infrastructure development, stating, “We shall continue the efforts of the Buhari administration on infrastructure. Progress toward national networks of roads, rail, and ports shall get priority attention.”

During the FEC's inaugural meeting last August, Tinubu charged cabinet members to prioritize efforts towards building a robust economy to benefit every Nigerian citizen. He emphasized the need for dedication and hard work, warning against underperformance amidst high expectations from the populace.

Reiterating his government's policy agenda, which emphasizes economic reform for sustainable and inclusive growth, as well as bolstering national security for peace and prosperity, President Tinubu stressed the importance of addressing the nation's challenges promptly.

In a notable decision during the FEC meeting on May 14, the Ministry of Works secured approval amounting to N89 billion for the reconstruction of the Koton-Karfe-Abaji road (Abuja 12 bound) along the Abuja-Lokoja route in Kogi state.

Additionally, on the same date, a contract worth N120 billion was awarded for the equalization of the Lokoja-Benin road, Okpela Section, Lokoja-Benin dualised Auchi section, to be financed by BUA Cement under the tax credit scheme.

Amidst other significant policy initiatives unveiled during the meeting chaired by Tinubu, contracts for infrastructural projects such as the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and various roads and bridges across different states were also approved, underscoring the administration's commitment to national development.

These decisions reflect the administration's resolve to address critical infrastructure needs and foster economic growth and development across Nigeria.
