Nigerian Army Promotes First Female Officer Trained at Sandhurst to Lieutenant

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has promoted Second Lieutenant Oluchukwu Owowoh to the rank of Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army.
The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) announced the promotion in a statement on X.com on Wednesday. The statement highlighted the promotion ceremony held on June 26, 2024, at the Nigerian Defence Academy Officer’s Mess and Golf Club.
During the ceremony, NDA Commandant Major General JO Ochai praised Lt. Owowoh's outstanding track record as a cadet, which earned her the distinction of being the first Nigerian female to be trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. This achievement, along with her exemplary performance, led to her promotion to Lieutenant.
The event was attended by senior military officers, academic and non-academic staff, family members, and other distinguished guests.
In April, PUNCH Online reported that Owowoh, 24, made history by becoming the first Nigerian female officer to graduate from the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom.
