The Federal Government is set to commence the construction of an additional 2,000 housing units in eight states within the South and North Central geopolitical zones as part of the Renewed Hope and Estates programme.

The new housing projects will be developed in Ebonyi, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Osun, Oyo, Benue, and Nasarawa States. The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, will officially launch the construction phase between June 26 and July 6, 2024, according to a statement on the Ministry’s official website.

This initiative follows closely on the heels of a similar project initiated a month ago, where 1,500 housing units began construction in five northern states: Katsina, Yobe, Gombe, Sokoto, and Kano.

The Ministry’s statement detailed the construction schedule, starting with a 250-unit project in Ebonyi State on June 26, followed by similar projects in Abia (June 27), Akwa Ibom (June 28), and Delta (June 29). The schedule continues with Osun (July 2), Oyo (July 3), Benue (July 5), and concludes in Nasarawa (July 6).

Each of the 250-unit housing projects will feature a mix of 50 one-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, 100 two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, and 50 three-bedroom semi-detached bungalows.

The construction efforts are anticipated to generate around 50,000 jobs, both skilled and unskilled, with an average of 25 jobs per unit. This job creation is expected to stimulate local economies across the participating states.

The Renewed Hope and Estates programme encompasses a total of 6,612 housing units, including 3,112 units in Abuja, the previously mentioned 1,500 units in northern states, and the upcoming 2,000 units. All projects are scheduled for completion and commissioning by the end of 2024, ensuring they will be ready for occupancy by Nigerians in need.

This large-scale housing initiative demonstrates the Federal Government's commitment to addressing housing shortages and promoting economic growth through job creation and infrastructure development.
